Safe and smart city

City: mobile street monitoring

Challenge

Road defects and violations in public amenities are noticed late and through complaints. Manual patrols cover a small share of streets, and contractors' work is hard to verify.

Solution

A unit on a service vehicle analyzes video right on board. Over the cellular network, a portal within the customer's perimeter receives events with a snapshot, time and coordinates instead of a video stream. The portal provides a map, an event feed and roles; detection sensitivity is configurable.

Technologies

  • On-board computer vision
  • Mobile communications
  • Geo-referencing
  • Portal on the customer's servers

Result

  • Applicability of the technology in real city traffic is confirmed.
  • The city now has a map-referenced event database for monitoring maintenance and keeping an inventory of objects.
  • The path to routine operation is defined.

Status

Pilot completed.

    Mining: conveyor belt monitoring

Cameras and laser scanners above the belt detect surface and splice defects and pinpoint them on the belt. The belt is monitored continuously, with no stoppages for inspection.

Chemicals: PPE, hazardous areas and behavior

Analytics on existing cameras recognizes PPE, hazardous areas and behavior; night shifts are monitored on a par with day shifts.
